About me…

Steven Lunétta: Photographer • Writer • Creative Dude • Wine Maker • Great Friend…

I first picked up a camera around (‘circa’ to be artsy…) 1968, on a summer trip to Wisconsin with my Mom, and my sister, Cecile. I was “drawn” to photography because I can’t capture the detail I see when I sketch or paint. I am very good at expressing myself with the written word, not so much verbally. I sold my first image in 1973 (see my blog thingy) to The San Diego Union.

In Junior High (back when that was a thing), I was trying to decide which shop class to take. My friend, Barry Weibel, said, “Take Graphic Arts, you can process film and make prints!” I talk more about Barry in the People section of my blog, “Racconti • Tales.” I took Photography classes in High School and Majored in Photography in College.

During college, I also worked as a photographer. I was the Photo Editor for San Diego Car News, worked on staff at Cubic Corp, San Diego Gas & Electric, and for the County of San Diego. I did a lot of commercial photography as well: food, products, and portraits.

As with most professional photographers, my main interest was my personal creative photography. That’s the focus (intentional pun…) of this website. My creative eye is drawn to diagonal lines, textures, and shapes. My color work usually has a limited color palette. I believe that my roots in the pre-digital era have given me a broader range of understanding and work than photographers who started with digital cameras or iPhones. I tend not to overprocess or manipulate my images. Kelly Kennedy will be pleased about that…
